Here's how to get the care you need, at the right time, in the right way and in the right place.

Video visit at home

    • Call your doctor’s office to schedule a video visit.
    • You will need a smart phone or tablet, or a computer that has a microphone or video camera. You may need to install software.
    • Tell your doctor your medical problem. Get a diagnosis and care plan.

Note: Video visits may not be offered in your area.

Your primary care doctor’s office

    • This is your main doctor or provider, who will take care of most of your health care needs.
    • See your doctor for checkups, preventive care and shots.
    • Your doctor can also care for basic health problems like colds, flu or minor injuries.
    • Your doctor will also work with specialists to make sure you get the care you need.

Urgent care clinic

    • Call urgent care if you can’t reach your doctor or your doctor’s office is closed. No appointment needed, just walk in.
    • Go to urgent care for minor cuts, burns, broken bones, muscle sprains or strains. Urgent care staff can also treat coughs, fever. Flu, skin rashes, sore throats and urinary tract infections.

Emergency room (ER)

    • Go to the ER for life-threatening health problems.
    • Seek ER care for chest pain, trouble breathing or bleeding that won’t stop. ER staff can also treat poisoning, major injuries or sudden numbness of the arms or face.
