I am writing to express concerns regarding my recent experiences with my primary care provider, Dr. Sorensen, and the overall quality of my annual physical care experience through Optum. He recommended sending this complaint to Optum. When I schedule what is supposed to be a comprehensive physical examination, the appointment feels rushed and limited to approximately 15 minutes. Much of that time appears focused on quickly reviewing my chart rather than having a meaningful discussion about my overall health and wellness. I really don't need to be told on a yearly basis to wear sunscreen, wear a helmet while skiing and to use a seatbelt while driving. Prior to my appointments, I take the time to carefully update my medical chart and provide current information regarding my health, lifestyle, and habits. Unfortunately, it often seems those updates are either not reviewed thoroughly or not reflected during the visit. In reviewing my laboratory results from two years ago compared to my current results, there has been noticeable improvement in several areas. I believe my consistent exercise plan and healthier lifestyle choices are positively impacting my health, and I would appreciate a more balanced and constructive discussion during my medical visits that recognizes those efforts. I understand the importance of discussing risk factors and unhealthy habits, and I am not asking for those conversations to be avoided. However, I would like my healthcare experience to feel more collaborative, individualized, and comprehensive rather than rushed or narrowly focused on a single issue year after year. As a patient, I value preventative healthcare and want to maintain a positive relationship with my provider and care team. My hope in sharing this feedback is that it may help improve communication, patient engagement, and the overall quality of care experience moving forward. The only value that I received at this appointment for $309 was a prescription renewal, which seems excessive. Thank you for your time and consideration.
