Virtual visits available for all specialties

Optum Connections virtual visits are real-time, face-to-face video consultations with a clinician who is an expert in your condition. You get confidential, personalized, one-on-one support to help you take your medication or understand your treatment in the privacy of your own home.

When you’re being treated for a specialty condition, sometimes you need extra support. It can be helpful to have someone answer your questions, so you can learn more about your medication or treatment and feel confident.

With Optum Connections virtual visits, you get the support you need — when and where you want it. We can even record your session so you can review it later or share it with a caregiver.

I liked the video chat with the pharmacist even better than having someone come to my home. I was nervous, but was able to give myself my first two injections.

How Optum Connections virtual visits work

During your Optum Specialty Pharmacy onboarding, your patient care coordinator will help you set up Optum Connections.

You're then able to call or live chat within our patient portal to schedule your private virtual appointment. Once scheduled, we'll send you a link for secure video chat with a pharmacist trained in your condition.

During your virtual visit, the pharmacist can:

  • Answer any questions you may have, like about storing your medication or managing side effects
  • Guide you through unboxing your medication
  • Teach you how to inject your medication

During your Optum Specialty Pharmacy onboarding, your patient care coordinator will help you get set up with Optum Connections.

Our team will work with your discharge coordinator or case manager while you're still in the hospital to ensure a smooth transfer for your treatment before, during and after your discharge. You can schedule a virtual visit both while you're still in the hospital as well as once you're home.

When receiving infusion treatments, a nurse will always come to your home for your first visit. Depending on your treatment and how comfortable you are administering your own treatment, Optum Connections virtual visits can replace having a nurse come to your home.

You can also schedule virtual visits for:

  • Asking any questions you may have, like about storing your medication or managing side effects
  • Getting real-time guidance unboxing your medication
  • Getting a one-on-one refresher on technique for administering your treatment

We’re dedicated to getting you the medication you need, when you need it, your way. Contact us today to discuss care and treatment options.
