I think he knows what he's talking about, but he's very loud, doesn't let me get a word in edgeways, and I specifically set up an appointment with him to discuss a concerning condition which required a four-month wait, and he simply dismissed it as stress without actually looking at it. Very disappointed in that.

Dr Alpern is the first dermatologist I’ve seen since 2018, not because I didn’t want to, but because there were only 2 Optum doctors to choose from in Long Beach. One bedside manner was absolutely horrible and the other one kept canceling my appointments and I was later told he only did surgeries. I then could only make appointments with the PA. When I saw Dr Alpern what a difference! He was kind, listened to my concerns and addressed them. After years of having basal cell carcinomas and pre cancers I can tell when something is developing. When I saw Dr Alpern he found many more that I wasn’t aware of. I will be recommending Dr Alpern to others because he’s the best!

Ken Alpern, MD, is board certified in dermatology. Dr. Alpern earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine in Galveston. He completed his internship at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and his residency at the UC Irvine Medical Center. In his spare time, Dr. Alpern is passionate about public tr ansportation and has served as chairman of the Friends of the Metro Green Line in the Los Angeles area.Gender
