Integrated approach closes gaps in care
Through Optum's Cancer Support Program and Cancer Resource Services, dedicated nurses empower members to be active in their treatment.
By collaborating with the member's treating physician, our nurses help prevent avoidable hospital and ER visits for those at high risk of complications and side effects.

Centers of Excellence improve quality of care
Centers of Excellence (COEs) provide high-quality, appropriate and cost-effective care. COEs are reviewed annually to ensure they continue to meet the high standards for which they were originally selected. Of participants, 98 percent are very satisfied or satisfied.1
COEs are qualified through a multidisciplinary approach, program depth and breadth, best-practices medicine, patient- and family-oriented programs and services, patient volumes, treatment planning and coordination, high-quality clinical research and patient safety.
Cancer Guidance Program
We help providers find the appropriate cancer treatments for their patients, with information on 60-plus types of cancer and 2,100-plus regimens from nationally recognized third parties.
Ensuring providers use evidence-based treatments drives significant cost and quality benefits for health plans and their members.
Our solution saves $7,000−$16,000 per member per year. You can save an additional $29,000 per participant over those managed in an existing case management program. Strong contracts with cancer COE facilities can provide an additional 25–35 percent off billed rates.2
