A shift towards self-direction

Across the country, I/DD providers are working to support self-direction for the individuals they serve. This movement advocates for the rights of every adult to direct their own life and live with dignity.

To learn more about this work, we launched a national survey of providers and other support personnel who serve I/DD populations. Our goal was to better understand the supports and barriers faced by agencies that provide services to people with I/DD.

We received responses from 475 experts working at all levels of service provider agencies across the U.S. The results point to agency, community and systemic factors that are hindering and helping the process of providing self-directed supports.
