Hi, I'm Dr. Norma Montiel. I'm a dermatologist at Optum.

00:00:05.000 --> 00:00:24.000
I knew when I was six that I wanted to be a doctor, even without encouragement from my family. I decided early that I was going to be different.

00:00:24.000 --> 00:00:43.000
I focus on the medical aspect of dermatology. I treat psoriasis, acne, many geriatric patients, and aspects of women's health. I don’t do much cosmetic work.

00:00:43.000 --> 00:01:00.000
As an osteopath, I look at the whole person. There is a lot of psychology in dermatology, and much of it shows through the skin. My family practice background helps me understand overall patient health.

00:01:00.000 --> 00:01:20.000
Working in a multispecialty group is a blessing. When something is outside my specialty, I can easily call a colleague and get a patient seen the same day. Communication is excellent.

00:01:20.000 --> 00:01:38.000
I have great rapport with other dermatologists and pathologists. We communicate regularly, and the EMR helps us see patient history and coordinate care.

00:01:38.000 --> 00:01:55.000
We like to travel. I’m athletic—I used to run, and now I enjoy weightlifting. I'm also an avid reader with a summer book list.

00:01:55.000 --> 00:02:01.000
