My name is Dr. Mark Schuchter. I am a family physician at Optum.

00:05.000 --> 00:32.000
I love science, I love medicine, and I love solving problems. I also like people, so medicine was a natural fit for me. When I was younger, my grandmother was very ill. Watching her physicians care for her during her cancer treatment played a large role in guiding my career and inspiring my desire to help others.

As a family physician, we treat everything from your hair down to your toes. What drives me in family medicine is the ability to care for the entire family. You gain more insight into patient care when you know the extended family—the parents, grandparents, and children. These relationships have been built over my 22-year career, and I love it.

00:56.000 --> 01:24.000
One thing I tell people before seeing me—or any physician—is to be prepared. Come with a list of questions. Bring information from other doctors. Even though we have medical records, we don’t know everything about you. The more information you bring, the better and easier it is for us to help you.

01:24.000 --> 01:51.000
Practicing medicine can sometimes be lonely—you’re one‑on‑one with patients. Knowing that I have colleagues who share the same goals, drive, and passion makes practicing medicine more enjoyable. It benefits patients because these colleagues are also my friends. I can text them with quick questions or ask them to see someone right away. Because we’re in the same group and share information, the care is seamless.

01:51.000 --> 02:13.000
I love spending time with my family—my children, my daughter, and my son. But one of my biggest passions is riding my Harley. I love getting out on the open road.
