I became an infectious disease physician because, while I was training in New York City, the AIDS crisis was at its peak. Seeing the suffering around me—both friends and patients—I felt determined to do everything I could to serve this community. That led me to specialize in infectious diseases.

I completed further training and went on to lead one of the largest HIV centers in the country, spending many years helping to build a center of excellence for those with HIV and AIDS.

Before becoming a physician, I spent 10 years as a Buddhist monk. That experience shaped my commitment to a life of service. Infectious diseases became a natural extension of that calling.

People come to see me for fevers, tick‑borne illnesses, joint infections, kidney, liver, heart, and lung infections—or when something unclear needs to be evaluated through a different lens. I value the intimacy of working closely with patients and helping them through difficult situations.

Working in a multi‑specialty group allows me to collaborate with colleagues and coordinate patient care seamlessly. I can easily reach other physicians, review their notes, and keep care within the Optum network so patients receive a full, integrated level of care.

I enjoy cycling throughout the year, and my wife and I have had the opportunity to hike all over the world. We love exploring new places, being in nature, and spending time in the mountains.
