Role at Optum
Dr. Kelly Carpenter, a licensed clinical psychologist, designs novel behavioral interventions and conducts research to improve the reach and effectiveness of health programs. At Optum, she has conducted research on the Quit for Life® tobacco cessation program. She was also the principal investigator of a grant that evaluated an innovative mindfulness-based weight loss coaching program.

Dr. Carpenter has developed interventions in the areas of stress, tobacco cessation, weight and pain management. She is particularly interested in digital interventions. She has conducted efficacy and effectiveness research related to health behavior change, published more than 25 peer-reviewed articles and has received more than 20 grants and contracts from the NIH and the CDC.

Dr. Carpenter completed her PhD in clinical psychology at Clark University and her predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) Puget Sound Healthcare System, Seattle Division, specializing in addiction treatment and research.
