Study finds Parkinson’s $52 Billion economic burden double previous estimates

Fox Foundation and its study on the economic burden of Parkinson’s disease, one of the world’s fastest-growing neurological disorders. Optum helping people stay connected with needed behavioral health support during COVID-19
Optum responded to the need for more behavioral health and emotional support during COVID-19 by expanding the availability of telehealth visits. As a result, members are now able to seek provider support from the comfort of their homes. Other Optum health efforts include the Employee Assistance Program, Emotional Support Help Line and app support for stress and anxiety. Learn more.

Optum partnering with California to increase COVID-19 testing capacity
Optum was recently chosen to assist California in providing multiple coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) testing sites for residents across the state. These efforts will increase California’s daily testing capacity by providing end-to-end testing of COVID-19, including coordinating testing events, shipping supplies, training providers, collecting specimens and reporting results.

Supporting 9/11 responders and survivors
The World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program provides no-cost medical monitoring and treatment of conditions caused by 9/11 exposures to eligible responders and survivors through 2090. These benefits are available for all eligible responders who performed rescue, recovery, cleanup and related support services at the World Trade Center and related sites in New York City; the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia; and the crash site in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Lower Manhattan clinic opens to ease backlog of 9/11-related illness cases
The World Trade Center Health Program's new clinic opened recently in Lower Manhattan. This helps ease a backlog of nearly 3,000 survivors who are waiting to find out if their diseases are related to 9/11. If they are, their treatment is eligible to be paid for by the federal government. Logistics Health Inc., part of OptumServe was chosen to run the clinic. Watch the video or read the article.

UnitedHealth Group to support use of bundled payments with providers in fee-for-service Medicare
The use of bundled payment models is expanding in traditional fee-for-service Medicare. UnitedHealth Group will offer data and analytics, technology and care coordination to support bundled payment models. United Health Foundation expands child development programs for military families
United Health Foundation announced a $150,000 grant to the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA). The goal is to provide access to quality, affordable child care services for military families. The grant expands on an existing United Health Foundation partnership with Fisher House Foundation. It will help ASYMCA build upon YMCA best practices and meet or exceed Department of Defense requirements for child care services. Read more.

2017 Report: Health of Women Who Have Served
Women who have served in the U.S. military are more likely than those who have not served to report being in very good or excellent health. Despite their self-reporting, women who have served have higher rates of several chronic conditions than their civilian counterparts. They are also more likely to face mental health challenges.
