Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer
Lynne Stockstad serves as executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Optum. She is responsible for the company’s strategic brand and marketing initiatives across business lines and customer audience segments. During her tenure at Optum, Stockstad has led product, marketing and branding efforts to increase the awareness and familiarity of Optum with key constituents. Her work has helped accelerate the company’s exponential growth over the past four years.
Stockstad joined Optum in December 2014 as senior vice president of Product and Consumer Marketing. In that role, she led a team of marketers supporting a broad spectrum of health services products — ranging from technology, managed services and consulting — used by health plans, employers, providers, life sciences organizations, government and consumers.
Prior to joining Optum, Stockstad served for 12 years in global leadership roles at Microsoft, spanning product management, product marketing, business development, enterprise marketing and public sector marketing. Her earlier experience includes leadership roles at Great Plains Software, where she spent 15 years helping to build the organization from a small startup through a successful IPO and, later, acquisition by Microsoft.
Stockstad has a BS in marketing from Minnesota State University, Moorhead.
We're really focused on staying centered on who we ultimately serve which is the individual consumer. And we're all consumers of health care so at any given time that can be us. My story is one of seeing the best of health care come together. I recently lost my mother-in-law to cancer and first off I just have to say what a courageous woman to be able to battle for 18 months on behalf of her family. I was reminded not only of the importance of the data and analytics and technology, but what really came to forefront for me was the absolute compassionate care of all of those that are in the clinician world and focused on that patient. I saw the power of the whole health care system coming together for somebody that I deeply love. It is why I'm here at Optum, and when you do get a close up example of how it works well or how it maybe needs to improve you definitely go back to our mission. I believe Optum has the ultimate potential to have the biggest impact, and I say potential because I think we're on the beginning of the impact that we're going to have. Because we have the unique depth and breadth of capabilities that frankly no other organization has but also because we're just deeply in the flow of healthcare every single day and seeing what's working, what needs to improve. I always tell my team on the tough days when I go home from work it's the most meaningful work I could be doing. And we want to make sure that we're showing how all of our capabilities can really come together to improve the life of one individual.
