Optum Labs provides a unique environment with industry-leading resources including health care data from Optum and care providers; advanced analytical tools and technology; and leading scientists and clinical resources. We have brought all of this together in a state-of-the-art facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Labs Facility
Constructed with the input of our partners, the Optum Labs space was designed to focus on all things needed for innovation with data and scientists. While modeled after Bell Labs, Google and others, it is decidedly an environment for health care innovation with an emphasis on data privacy and security. There are five studios with varying degrees of flexible configuration (with two of them soundproof) that were purposefully designed to accommodate a variety of team needs. There are three break-out pods for smaller team sessions, as well as workstations, which allow teams access to work here and also use the meeting spaces. We work with varying degrees of need, from day visitors to longer duration work needs.
The studios are designed especially to accommodate teams and users with technology and design to aid in global collaboration.

For added security, the lobby or concierge area is located outside of a "firewall" to protect the inner sanctum of the labs. Access to the inner sanctum uses a fingerprint recognition technology to ensure security and access remain paramount.

A special part of the lobby/concierge room is the “loft” area which is to serve as a gathering place for students, interns, and entrepreneurs to work and collaborate.

The three break-out pods were established to allow smaller teams, or “break-out sessions,” to occur seamlessly. Each pod has the identical technology as the larger studios, yet in a smaller, quiet room.

Each of the studios feature touchscreen monitors, video communication ability, electronic white boards, modifiable layouts, natural light, spectacular views and more.

- Physical Security – Physical access to restricted areas is limited to Optum Labs personnel. Optum Labs facilities are monitored and secured with a variety of physical controls to prevent unauthorized access.
