Outreach improves outcomes, cuts costs
Optum® manages mental health services, substance abuse and Alternatives to Incarceration programs for Salt Lake County. To offer a fuller spectrum of clinical services, we initiated a full crisis services redesign to help people facing incarceration get the right care.
In just one year, 1,365 people in a behavioral health crisis were referred to outreach services by law enforcement. If even half of these referrals resulted in the prevention of booking and jailing, that represents a savings of over $1.3 million for the county.*
